HD Hyundai Robotics, the institutional sector affiliate of HD Hyundai Group's robotics unit, will make a strategic investment to strengthen competitiveness in the physical artificial intelligence (AI) business.
On the 11th, HD Hyundai Robotics said it invested 13 billion won in the robot sensory-function specialist "Aidin Robotics" to acquire equity. HD Hyundai Robotics expects to secure core technology for Humanoid Robot development through this equity investment and strengthen competitiveness in the physical AI business.
Aidin Robotics is a robot specialist that develops sensor technology to precisely detect a robot's touch and force. It designs and produces force and tactile sensors using a capacitive measurement method. The sensors are regarded as core components of Humanoid Robots, with strengths in performance, cost competitiveness and miniaturization.
Through this investment, the two companies will develop products that combine HD Hyundai Robotics' robot platform with Aidin Robotics' force and tactile sensors and control technology. They will also develop a five-finger robot hand tailored for shipbuilding and heavy industry and plan to mount it on HD Hyundai Robotics' Humanoid Robots.
The two companies will also cooperate in surface-treatment automation solutions where robots perform tasks done by people, such as polishing and grinding. They plan to jointly develop the technology and expand the business scope from shipbuilding and heavy-industry sites to domestic manufacturing sites and global manufacturing markets, including U.S. shipyards.
An HD Hyundai Robotics official said, "This investment is a strategic choice to develop physical AI-based robot solutions by combining the capabilities of both companies," adding, "We will continue to expand strategic cooperation with promising technology corporations to help strengthen the global competitiveness of Korea's robot industry, while actively moving to preempt future markets."
