Chey Tae-won, chairman of SK Group, will visit the SK artificial intelligence (AI) data center and SK Innovation Ulsan CLX (Complex) in Ulsan on the 10th to check the progress of AI transition execution.
On site, key member company chief executive officers (CEOs) including Jang Yong-ho, SK Innovation president and head of corporate, Jung Jai-hun, SK Telecom president, Yoon Byung-seok, SK Gas president, Kim Wone-kee, SK enmove president, Kim Jong-hwa, SK Energy and SK geocentric president, Kim Sung-soo, SK Broadband president, and Kim Young-sik, SK ecoplant president, will join.
It has been three months since the chairman began on-site management of domestic AI transition (AX) through MBWA (Management by Walking Around), following the declaration of a "management transformation centered on AX" at the "New Icheon Forum" in June.
That day, the chairman will visit the SK AI Data Center Ulsan site to check the construction status. Major SK Group member companies are taking part here in large numbers, including SK Telecom, SK Broadband, SK Chemicals, SK hynix, and SK AX.
SK AI Data Center Ulsan is the first project site for AI infrastructure that SK Group is pursuing nationwide at a 15-gigawatt (GW) scale. It is being built with AWS (Amazon Web Services) with the goal of beginning operation by the end of 2027. SK Group plans to expand SK AI Data Center Ulsan to a GW-level scale and build an AI data center cluster totaling more than 2 GW across the Yeongnam region.
The chairman will also visit SK Innovation Ulsan CLX to check the AX status and encourage employees. Ulsan CLX is SK Innovation's core manufacturing AX site that integrates AI into refining and chemical processes to simultaneously pursue process optimization, safety management, and energy efficiency.
Dual Brain, the goal of Ulsan CLX, is an integrated operating system that combines AI, which makes decisions based on data, with the experience of engineers accumulated on site over decades. When AI continuously detects and analyzes all processes and equipment across Ulsan CLX, which spans 2.5 million pyeong, for 24 hours, people make judgments and respond quickly. It is expected to become an execution model that can be applied to other manufacturing sites in the future.
SK Group has presented "AI full-stack provider" as its group strategy. Starting with semiconductors, the strategy is to build infrastructure that encompasses AI data centers, energy, and services, and extend it to manufacturing AX that applies this to real industrial sites, thereby establishing a value chain.
An SK Group official said, "This is an opportunity to directly check on site how SK Group's resolve to accelerate AX is being realized across the entire AI full-stack," adding, "We will thoroughly examine every area—from semiconductors and AI infrastructure to AX at manufacturing sites—and lead our position as an 'AI full-stack provider.'"
