Rasmus Errboe, Ørsted chief executive officer (CEO), recently visited Korea and met with government official and key stakeholders. Errboe also reviewed the status of Ørsted's Korea operations, including the 1.47-gigawatt (GW) Incheon Offshore Wind 1 and 2 projects.
On the 7th, according to Ørsted Korea, Errboe met during the visit with National Assembly Climate, Energy, Environment and Labor Committee Chair Kim Jeong-ho and senior officials at the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment to exchange views on Korea's energy transition policy and the development direction of the offshore wind industry. He also discussed the role of European corporations and avenues for cooperation with European Chamber of Commerce in Korea (ECCK) Chair Philippe Van Hoof.
Ørsted, a global offshore wind and renewable energy corporations headquartered in Denmark, is developing a 1.47 GW offshore wind project in Incheon. This amounts to about 14% of the government's 2030 offshore wind target (10.5 GW). Once the Incheon Offshore Wind 1 and 2 projects are completed, they can supply renewable energy equivalent to the power consumption of about 1.4 million households.
Errboe said, "This visit reaffirmed our belief in Korea's long-term potential as an offshore wind market," and added, "In meetings with government official and key stakeholders, we were able to confirm Korea's commitment to expanding renewable energy, and Ørsted will continue to provide support so that, in close cooperation with the Korean government and domestic partner corporations and stakeholders, we can contribute to Korea's energy transition."
He went on, "It was an opportunity to directly confirm the industrial capabilities Korea has built up through more than a decade of cooperation with the Korean supply chain," and said, "Based on the capabilities and experience of the Korean supply chain that have led Ørsted to introduce about 3.5 trillion won worth of Korea-made equipment and services into Ørsted's global offshore wind projects, I am confident the Korean supply chain can play an even more important role in Ørsted's global offshore wind business going forward."
Errboe added, "We also once again confirmed the dedicated efforts and expertise of Ørsted's Korea organization, which will be a great boost in laying the foundation for long-term growth in Korea with the Incheon project as a springboard."
