Hanwha Aerospace(012450) will export the K-239 Chunmoo multiple launch rocket system to Croatia.
According to the defense industry and local media on the 4th, Hanwha Aerospace is set to sign a Chunmoo export contract with Croatia on the 8th (local time). The deal is worth €435.2 million (about 684 billion won) and includes 18 launchers and related missiles. Deliveries will take place over two years starting in 2028.
Chunmoo, developed independently by Hanwha Aerospace, has been a core firepower asset used by Korea's military since 2015 to counter the threat of North Korea's multiple rocket launchers and long-range artillery. It can fire high-explosive guided rockets out to a maximum range of 80 km, and with unguided rockets it can devastate an area three times the size of a soccer field, earning it the nickname "steel rain." The launcher can travel at speeds of up to 80 km/h and has protection against enemy CBRN attacks and small-arms fire.
Croatia faces an urgent need to modernize its military amid the war in Ukraine and overlapping tensions with neighboring Serbia. In response, Croatia plans to gradually increase defense spending from 2.01% of gross domestic product (GDP) last year to 5% by 2032. It also reinstated conscription this year for the first time in 18 years.
