One employee of a subcontractor working at a welfare facility at the HD Hyundai Heavy Industries Ulsan shipyard was found collapsed and later died.
HD Hyundai Heavy Industries disclosed on the 31st that worker A was found collapsed in the boiler machinery room of Hanuri Hall, a welfare facility inside the shipyard located in Dong-gu, Ulsan. Hanuri Hall is a welfare facility used by shipyard workers and includes sports facilities and a cafeteria.
A was found collapsed in the boiler machinery room of the facility at about 8:30 p.m. on the 28th. A was then taken to a hospital but was pronounced dead at about 9 p.m. the same day.
On the day of the incident, police and the Ministry of Employment and Labor (MOEL) began an on-site investigation to determine the exact circumstances of the accident. According to HD Hyundai Heavy Industries, the cause of death has not yet been identified.
The Ulsan Dongbu branch of the Busan Regional Employment and Labor Office has issued a work-stoppage order for all ladders used within the establishment.
On the 18th of last month, a foreign worker also died in a crushing accident while working at the HD Hyundai Heavy Industries Ulsan shipyard. On the 24th of the same month, a subcontractor's worker died in an accident at the Gunsan shipyard.
Regarding the accident, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries said, "We pray for the deceased and will actively cooperate with the relevant authorities' investigation to determine the exact circumstances of the accident."
