Hyundai Motor Group said on the 31st that it has recruited Vice President Hong Eun-hee, an energy business expert who previously worked at the U.K.-based global energy company BP (British Petroleum), as the new head of the HMG Energy & Hydrogen Business Division.
The head of the HMG Energy & Hydrogen Business Division is a role to boost the group's global expansion and execution capabilities in energy and hydrogen businesses to strengthen its future energy business competitiveness and hydrogen leadership.
Born in 1977, Vice President Hong graduated from the Department of English Education at Ewha Womans University, worked at P&G (Procter & Gamble) Korea and The Export-Import Bank of Korea, and completed an MBA at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.
Starting in 2007, Hong spent 18 years at BP, handling development, strategy formulation, and execution across a range of energy businesses including oil, liquefied natural gas (LNG), hydrogen, and ammonia.
In particular, in the Angola LNG project, Hong led the structuring and contract design of the business from resource development to long-term supply and transportation, building end-to-end experience across the energy value chain and proving the ability to turn market opportunities into real businesses.
Based on these results, Hong was selected in 2021 as chief of staff to BP's head of technology and, in 2022, led the organization for hydrogen and ammonia business development.
The following year, Hong oversaw BP's global hydrogen business development organization, working with key government agencies and responding to policy, as well as identifying and developing business models based on customer demand.
Hyundai Motor Group expects that Vice President Hong's execution capabilities and global network, recognized as those of a global energy business development expert, will help enhance competitiveness in the energy business and accelerate the expansion of the hydrogen ecosystem.
Vice President Hong said, "Based on my experience in global energy and hydrogen businesses, I will seek new business opportunities in Hyundai Motor Group's future energy sector and help strengthen its global competitiveness."
Meanwhile, former division head Executive Vice President Ken Ramirez is said to have resigned voluntarily for personal reasons.
