Doosan Group said on the 27th it will provide an emergency $5 million in aid to Nepal's Rasuwa region, which was hit by a sudden flood.
Doosan made the decision to support recovery efforts such as searches and rescues in the affected area. A Doosan official said, "We hope this will help swift recovery efforts in the sudden, large-scale disaster."
On the 26th, a large flood struck the north-central Himalayan mountain region of Nepal, and contact has been lost with six workers from Doosan Enerbility who were building a hydropower plant and three employees of Korea South-East Power (KOEN).
Doosan Enerbility dispatched eight people, including Jeong Yeong-in, Doosan Enerbility CEO (vice chairman), to the site on the 27th. Six headquarters employees of Korea South-East Power also departed for Nepal that day.
The site where the missing Korean workers had been assigned is the UT-1 hydropower plant construction site. The construction site is a 216-megawatt (MW) hydropower plant being built on the Trishuli River, 70 kilometers northwest of Nepal's capital, Kathmandu. Main construction began in Jan. 2022, with commercial operation scheduled to start after completion at the end of this year.
