DN Solutions will build its first manufacturing plant in Bengaluru, India, and begin local production. The company plans to expand its response to India's domestic market while fostering the site long term as a global export base.
DN Solutions said on the 27th that it completed a manufacturing plant in the ITIR industrial complex in Bengaluru, Karnataka, India. This is the first overseas manufacturing investment since establishing a production base in Yantai, China, in 2003.
The phase-one investment totals 6 billion Indian rupees (about 86 billion won). The company is considering additional investments of a similar size in subsequent phases depending on demand growth. It will first focus on serving India's domestic demand and, long term, consider using India as a global export base.
The new plant sits on a site of about 100,000 square meters developed and managed by the Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB). It brings together in one place the key functions of the machine tool business, including research and development (R&D), production, service, and training. DN Solutions said it chose Bengaluru as a production base considering industrial fundamentals such as precision manufacturing and automation, technical talent, and the supply chain.
The plant will first produce the SVM series of vertical machining centers and the LYNX and LEO series of horizontal turning centers tailored to the Indian market. It is also reviewing expanding its product lineup to advanced machine tools such as 5-axis machines. The R&D facility will work with experts at the company's four existing labs in Korea, Germany, and China, and at technical centers in Asia, Europe, and the Americas to develop products, machining solutions, and applications.
Alongside the plant, the company also built a technical center, a repair and parts center, and the DN Academy. The technical center helps customers verify equipment operation through test machining and validate machining solutions. The repair and parts center and DN Academy handle after-sales service and training for field service engineers.
DN Solutions entered the Indian market in 1994 by establishing a sales network. It set up the Bengaluru technical center in 2008 and established an Indian subsidiary in 2016. Chief Executive Kim Won-jong of DN Solutions said, "India has strong potential to become a global manufacturing powerhouse," adding, "A large and growing domestic market, an English-speaking workforce, outstanding engineering talent, and a young demographic structure are India's long-term strengths."
