Kim Jeong-il (photo), former director general for strategic trade order at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, has been named the new executive vice chairman of the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
KORCHAM said on the 25th it plans to convene an extraordinary general meeting of members on Sept. 8 to submit a motion for "appointment approval of the new executive vice chairman" for Kim, the nominee. If the agenda item passes, Kim will be officially appointed as the new executive vice chairman.
Over more than 30 years, Kim has worked across government and corporate sites, building extensive experience and expertise in national core industries, including industrial policy, trade, energy, and semiconductors.
At the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, Kim served as director of the Semiconductor and Display Division, director of the Americas Trade Division, director general for FTA Policy, director general for Energy Innovation Policy, and director general for Strategic Trade Order. Afterward, Kim was in charge of global business policy at SK Square and served as executive vice president and head of external relations at SK hynix(000660).
After overseeing industrial and trade policy in government and then handling external relations and global business in corporations, Kim is seen as having the capacity to broadly understand and coordinate the positions of the government and the business community, having experienced both policymaking and corporate sites.
Kim said, "As uncertainty grows in the global economy and trade environment, I will actively represent the voices from the corporate field so that our corporations can grow stably and create new opportunities," adding, "I will faithfully serve as a bridge between the government and the business community and do my best to enhance the global competitiveness of our corporations."
