Hanwha Group said on the 23rd it will donate 3 billion won to help restore flood-damaged areas in South Gyeongsang Province and support vulnerable groups.
Hanwha decided to donate 2 billion won to the National Disaster Relief Association to help swiftly restore South Gyeongsang areas such as Geoje, Tongyeong, and Sacheon, which suffered heavy damage from torrential rain. The funds will be used for practical assistance, including emergency living expenses for local residents, temporary housing, and daily necessities.
It will then donate an additional 1 billion won to help vulnerable groups in South Gyeongsang. The entire donation will be paid in local currency and, starting next month, will be used through Green Umbrella and the Gyeongsangnam-do Volunteer Center to purchase study materials for children from low-income families, support living expenses for seniors living alone, and renovate welfare facilities.
Hanwha Ocean, which has a shipyard in Geoje, supported dredging vehicles, pumps, generators, and other equipment and operating personnel in flooded areas, and provided bottled water, gloves, and snacks to volunteer groups.
A Hanwha Group official said, "We hope this will help many people who lost their livelihoods and are struggling due to the heavy rain damage to return to their daily lives as soon as possible," adding, "We will do our best to support disaster recovery and vulnerable groups in the region."
