Hyundai Motor's labor union will launch an additional five-day strike. Wage talks resumed after 41 days but failed to reach an agreement.
Hyundai Motor labor and management held the 16th round of wage negotiations at the Ulsan plant on the 18th but failed to reach a deal.
With the talks collapsing, the union will stage an additional strike for five days starting on the 19th. There will be a four-hour partial strike on the 19th–20th, a full strike on the 21st, and another four-hour partial strike on the 24th–25th.
If a full strike is held on the 21st, union executives will also lead a rally at Hyundai Motor headquarters in Yangjae-dong, Seoul.
Hyundai Motor labor and management returned to the table for the first time in 41 days after the 15th round of talks on the 8th of last month, but again failed to reach an agreement. Key sticking points include increasing bonuses, reinstating members dismissed for illegal acts during past union activities, and extending the retirement age.
Hyundai Motor maintains that the items in question cannot be addressed within wage negotiations, while the union argues they must be handled to maintain trust between labor and management.
