Korean Air Lines(003490) said on the 14th that it has put into operation a maintenance defect analysis system based on Generative AI and cloud technology developed in collaboration with LG CNS and Amazon Web Services (AWS).
Korean Air Lines built this maintenance defect analysis system to support decision-making at maintenance sites and accelerate the digital transformation (DX) of aircraft maintenance tasks. Its feature is the ability to easily and quickly search and analyze maintenance data with Generative AI.
The new system is designed so that when a mechanic enters defect symptoms or situations in natural language, the AI understands the context and meaning to find maintenance histories and similar cases. It also standardizes and understands abbreviations and unstructured records written by field mechanics.
In addition, by integrating more than 90 databases tables and millions of maintenance data entries that were previously dispersed, it allows related information to be viewed in one place and automatically extracts key information such as major actions and defect locations, increasing the utilization of maintenance data.
Based on this, it also provides statistics and trend information such as defect life cycles by aircraft type and tail number, whether defects are recurring, and parts repair and action histories, and enables analysis of correlations between maintenance data and defect occurrence patterns with Generative AI. It can also retrieve operational messages between the aircraft and the ground.
Korean Air Lines expects that the introduction of the new system will reduce the time required for technical information analysis and decision-making at maintenance sites and increase the accuracy of engineering work.
In particular, the system automatically preprocesses unstructured maintenance records entered by mechanics and converts them into standardized data, and supports natural language search so past maintenance cases can be searched and referenced more easily and quickly.
A Korean Air Lines official said, "Korean Air Lines will continue to accelerate digital transformation based on advanced AI and data technology to enhance maintenance capabilities and further strengthen safe operations."
