The Small Enterprise and Market Service (SEMAS) will improve its internal work methods based on artificial intelligence (AI) and strengthen support services for small business owners. It will establish a dedicated committee to oversee the introduction and use of AI and lay the groundwork for an organization-wide artificial intelligence transformation (AX), spanning data management systems, AI ethics, and personal information protection.
SEMAS said on the 14th that it launched the "Intelligent Informatization Committee" and held its first meeting.
The Intelligent Informatization Committee was newly created to respond to rapid changes in AI, data, and digital technology. It will establish mid- to long-term intelligent informatization policies and coordinate and review the organization's AX tasks from a company-wide perspective.
About 10 experts from academia and the public and private sectors in AI, IT, data, and information protection are participating in the committee. Advisory commissioners, including SEMAS' nonstanding directors, and internal commissioners, including the head of the AI Digital Division, are also taking part.
At the first meeting held the previous day, members reviewed plans for committee operations and SEMAS' mid- to long-term intelligent informatization plan. They also discussed revisions to intelligent informatization work guidelines, a draft of AI ethics principles, and an internal management plan for personal information protection.
The committee will review the direction of SEMAS' intelligent informatization projects and deliberate and advise on the new buildout, advancement, integration, or decommissioning of major information systems. It will also address ways to identify and manage risks in advance that may arise during the introduction and use of AI.
It will also build the institutional foundation needed to expand AI utilization. Plans include refining standards for introducing and using AI and data governance, and reviewing related tasks such as information security, personal information protection, and AI ethics.
SEMAS plans to integrate AI and data across internal operations to boost efficiency, while ensuring this leads to improvements in support services that small business owners can feel.
In Tae-yeon, SEMAS chair, said, "The Intelligent Informatization Committee will be a strategic decision-making body that innovates the organization's way of working based on artificial intelligence and improves support services for small business owners," adding, "We will produce results that small business owners can feel by reflecting on-the-ground voices and expert opinions."
