Hanwha Aerospace(012450) said on the 14th that it was selected as the preferred negotiation partner for the Defense Acquisition Program Administration's ballistic course-correcting fuze system development project.
A ballistic course-correcting fuze is a device mounted on the front of a shell that adjusts its trajectory in real time based on GPS after launch to improve accuracy.
The project will develop a ballistic course-correcting fuze for 155 mm ammunition for the K9 self-propelled howitzer, with 164.2 billion won to be invested through 2032.
Hanwha Aerospace expects that applying the ballistic course-correcting fuze will reduce the K9's existing impact dispersion to about one-sixth.
A Hanwha Aerospace official said, "The ballistic course-correcting fuze is a core technology of future artillery systems," and added, "We will actively contribute to independent defense and expanding K-defense exports through the domestic production of advanced defense technology."
