Hanwha Systems(272210) said on the 13th that it will pursue strategic cooperation with the Telecommunications Technology Association (TTA), Korea's ICT international standard certification body, to develop an artificial intelligence (AI)-based 5G tactical communication system.
Through this partnership, the two companies will develop next-generation military communication network technology that uses AI to seamlessly integrate and operate 5G terrestrial networks (TN) and non-terrestrial networks (NTN).
The communication system will apply commercial 5G technology to military communications and be developed to meet global standards so it can be used not only in Korea but also in other countries.
From the initial planning and design stages of this joint development, the two companies will also incorporate commercial 5G and 6G technologies based on the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) and NATO's communication standards.
By verifying interoperability, they aim to ensure the communication compatibility required by global markets such as the European Union (EU) and NATO and to expand global exports of weapon systems.
Hanwha Systems also plans to jointly develop with TTA the MOSS technology, an integrated solution mounted on vehicles and other platforms that supports multilayer tactical communications.
MOSS is a technology that integrates mobile tactical 5G base stations and transmission equipment, satellite communication terminals, and C4I mission equipment into a single platform.
A Hanwha Systems official said, "Advancing military communications is a core capability that will determine victory or defeat on future battlefields," adding, "We will continue to work with TTA to advance the military's hyperconnected tactical communication network and strengthen our responsiveness to international standardization trends."
