Chairman Kim Seung-youn of Hanwha spent more than 3 billion won of his own money to send a restorative meal set to the homes of all 69,000 employees in Korea.
On the 12th, according to Hanwha Group, Chairman Kim recently sent restorative meal sets consisting of samgyetang, galbitang, and seolleongtang to employees' households. The value is about 43,000 won per employee. Hanwha said it was meant to encourage employees dedicated to their duties amid the heat, and the entire expense was covered by Chairman Kim's personal funds, not company money.
In a letter enclosed with the gift, Chairman Kim said, "I extend my deep gratitude for the dedication of all employees who have quietly done their best in their respective roles despite constant challenges and difficulties," and added, "As we always have, we will turn crises into opportunities for growth." He continued, "I hope this small token will help support the health of you and your families."
Chairman Kim has often sent gifts to employees. Since 2004, he has sent good-luck gifts and letters of encouragement each year to employees' children ahead of the College Scholastic Ability Test, and the cumulative number of recipients through last year totals about 80,000. During the spread of COVID-19, he also sent letters wishing a speedy recovery and flowers to employees who were infected.
A Hanwha Group official said, "Chairman Kim's principle is that the health of employees and their families is more important than anything else."
