At a domestic low-cost carrier (LCC) Jeju Air(089590), an incident occurred in which some personal information, including customers' passport numbers, was exposed.
According to the airline industry on the 11th, on the 5th reservation information for about 100 Jeju Air customers was exposed on Naver's search engine. The disclosed information was said to include customer names and partially masked passport numbers.
Jeju Air blocked the relevant page immediately after confirming the issue and reported the incident to the Personal Information Protection Commission. The airline contacted the customers whose personal information was exposed to inform them of the disclosure, and decided to pay the passport reissuance expense and an additional compensation of 100,000 won.
A Jeju Air official said, "After identifying the matter, we immediately blocked the leaked page and took emergency measures, including requesting deletion of the search results," and added, "In accordance with the customer notification obligation under the Personal Information Protection Act, we notified the affected customers and completed reporting the personal information leak to the Personal Information Protection Commission."
The official added, "We will continue to improve our systems and management framework to better protect personal information and do our best to prevent a recurrence of the same issue."
