The Ministry of SMEs and Startups will support startups' proof of concept (PoC) and commercialization using public data.
The Ministry of SMEs and Startups (MSS) said on the 10th it will recruit collaboration projects for the "public data utilization support" program from the 11th to the 31st.
The program was newly established this year to support data-driven collaboration between public institutions and startups. It will run both a top-down approach, in which public institutions present tasks, and a bottom-up approach, in which startups propose tasks to public institutions.
In the top-down approach, when a public institution presents a public service innovation task using data it holds or has disclosed, a startup to solve the task is matched. In the bottom-up approach, when a startup proposes a collaboration task using undisclosed data from a public institution, the National Information Society Agency (NIA)'s "corporations public data problem-solving support center" will be linked to support data opening and utilization.
The Ministry of SMEs and Startups (MSS) will select about 20 startups to pursue new business entry, solutions to social problems, and public service innovation based on the collaboration tasks identified this time, and plans to provide around 100 million won per corporation on average.
Cho Kyung-won, the Ministry of SMEs and Startups (MSS) director-general for startup policy, said, "Data accumulated by public institutions is an important resource that, when combined with startups' innovative technologies, can create new markets and lead to public service innovation that people can feel," adding, "We will provide thorough support across the entire process, from data opening and acquisition to commercialization."
