Lotte Global Logistics said on the 10th that it won an additional contract for transporting battery energy storage systems (BESS) in the United States for LG Energy Solution(373220). BESS is a system that stores surplus electricity in batteries so it can be used when needed.
With this additional order, Lotte Global Logistics will transport most of the BESS produced by LG Energy Solution at its Phoenix, Arizona, plant to local customers in the United States. Until now, it had handled only part of the plant's BESS output.
Accordingly, Lotte Global Logistics expects its transport volume for LG Energy Solution's BESS to triple from the previous level. It also plans to use this to cement its presence in the high value-added logistics market in North America.
Transporting BESS in the United States requires advanced logistics capabilities. This is because it must meet strict standards required by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) throughout the entire transport process, along with precise transport control that minimizes the risk of damage.
Lotte Global Logistics said the win largely stemmed from factors such as transport route optimization and automation of paperwork like invoices, achieved through its independently developed artificial intelligence (AI) logistics platform "Shiptte" and a consulting program based on a large language model (LLM).
A Lotte Global Logistics official said, "This order shows that Lotte Global Logistics' advanced logistics capabilities and on-site responsiveness are recognized in the global market."
