CJ Logistics(000120), in cooperation with Daegu Metropolitan City and the Intelligent Vehicle Parts Research Institute, said on the 6th that it will start a pilot autonomous driving freight transport project in the Daegu-region middle-mile section beginning in Oct.
CJ Logistics expects that the pilot project will extend its existing highway-centered autonomous driving operating experience into urban sections, allowing it to verify both autonomous driving technology and operating capabilities in an actual logistics environment.
An 11.5-ton (t) cargo truck will be deployed for the pilot, circulating among four sub-terminals within the Daegu area. A trial run to check schedule adherence and safety will begin as early as Sep.
Through the trial run, the company plans to secure urban driving data and logistics operation data between sub-terminals spanning 4.2–26 km, and operate a service transporting actual cargo by the first half of next year.
Since Mar. 2024, over about a year, CJ Logistics has run a pilot autonomous driving freight transport project on the 218 km Incheon–Okcheon section, accumulating operating data across diverse road environments.
Building on earlier highway-centered autonomous driving experience, this project is a follow-up phase that expands the scope to urban middle-mile sections. CJ Logistics will use it to advance autonomous driving technology and logistics operation technology.
