The Muse Entertainment, a small and midsize agency that discovered and developed the girl group Rescene, is drawing attention as a leading case of venture capital driving growth in the K-content industry.
Korea Venture Investment Corporation (KVIC) said on the 5th that it selected The Muse Entertainment as a "KVIC Beyond&Bridge K-content growth corporations," appointed Rescene as an honorary public relations ambassador, and held a commemorative event to highlight the growth potential of small and midsize content corporations.
The event was organized to spotlight how a small and midsize entertainment company that received investment from a fund of funds' subfund is generating tangible market results based on in-house artist planning and production capabilities and expanding its potential for growth in global markets.
Rescene, a five-member girl group under The Muse Entertainment, has recently topped major domestic music charts, continuing its steep growth. It is gaining attention as a new K-pop act by releasing Japanese-language tracks and entering local charts, expanding its footprint in overseas markets.
Investors in The Muse Entertainment included SmartStudy Ventures, KNet Investment Partners, JB Investment, and Michigan Venture Capital, which manage subfunds backed by the fund of funds. Their investments supported content production, artist development, and business expansion, laying the foundation for the growth of the corporations.
Korea Venture Investment Corporation explained that the cases of The Muse Entertainment and Rescene align with the purpose of "Beyond&Bridge" as representative examples where the planning skills of a small and midsize agency, the competitiveness of artists, and venture capital combined to produce results.
"Beyond&Bridge" is a project that carries the intent that Korea Venture Investment Corporation will expand its role as a venture investment platform that goes beyond (Beyond) the simple provision of policy funds to support corporations in generating tangible results, and that serves as a bridge (Bridge) by linking stage-specific investment with the market.
Korea Venture Investment Corporation plans to use this event as a starting point to strengthen support so that promising small and midsize content corporations can attract investment suited to their stage of growth and advance into domestic and overseas markets. It also plans to pursue various collaborative measures to share the challenges and growth stories of venture corporations through Rescene's activities as honorary public relations ambassadors, in consultation with The Muse Entertainment.
Lee Dae-hee, head of Korea Venture Investment Corporation, said, "Rescene's performance is a case that shows small and midsize content corporations can produce sufficiently meaningful market outcomes when differentiated planning capabilities combine with appropriate venture capital," adding, "We will further strengthen our role as a venture investment platform so that promising K-content corporations can grow stably and leap into the global market."
