Doosan Fuel Cell will produce the core component "stack" of solid oxide fuel cells (SOFC) with its own mass-production technology and supply it to the European market in volume.
Doosan Fuel Cell disclosed on the 5th that it signed a contract with German energy company Reverion GmbH to supply SOFC stacks worth about 108.7 billion won. It is the largest export deal since the company's founding and equals 23.9% of sales on a consolidation basis at the end of 2025. Reverion previously adopted Doosan Fuel Cell's SOFC stacks and completed its own performance verification.
The stacks will be delivered in sequence through the second half of 2027, and Reverion's next-generation fuel cell systems equipped with Doosan Fuel Cell's SOFC stacks are expected to be supplied to eco-friendly power facilities in Germany and across Europe. Reverion is a specialist in reversible power plants that generate electricity with gas and can switch to a water electrolysis mode when surplus power occurs.
SOFCs are fuel cells that produce electricity through the chemical reaction of hydrogen and oxygen using a ceramic electrolyte. Because they can generate power continuously and stably 24 hours a day, the market is expanding as they are adopted as a key power source for artificial intelligence (AI) data centers, where electricity demand is surging, and for eco-friendly ships.
The product supplied by Doosan Fuel Cell is a medium-low-temperature SOFC stack commercialized based on technological cooperation with Ceres Power in the United Kingdom. Unlike conventional SOFCs that operate at high temperatures above 800℃, it runs at a medium-low temperature of about 620℃, achieving high power efficiency, durability, and operational stability at the same time.
Stephan Herrmann, CEO of Reverion, said, "Medium-low-temperature SOFC technology is central to Reverion's high-efficiency fuel cell systems that have entered mass production, and we have already confirmed its applicability at multiple sites," adding, "We expect the introduction of efficient on-site power generation facilities in the European market to accelerate further."
Yoon Jae-dong, executive vice president of Doosan Fuel Cell, said, "This export of SOFC stacks is significant in that the core-component foundry business has led to tangible results in overseas markets," adding, "We will use this as a springboard to accelerate securing global customers, including in North America and Europe."
