LIG Defense&Aerospace(079550) said on the 4th that it finished the critical design review (CDR) in June for the electronic warfare system for the third Jangbogo-III Batch II submarine and began manufacturing components.
The CDR is a gate that checks whether the design has been fully completed before full-scale prototype production. LIG D&A said it signed a research and development contract with Hanwha Ocean(042660) in Apr. last year, passed the system requirements review (SRR), system functional review (SFR), and preliminary design review (PDR) in order, and completed this CDR.
The Jangbogo-III Batch II program is a project to build 3,000-ton-class submarines with domestic technology. In particular, the entry barrier for submarine electronic warfare systems is high, so the field had no choice but to rely entirely on foreign equipment. LIG D&A said that with this CDR as a turning point, it was officially recognized for the stability and reliability of underwater system design, following ground, aviation, and maritime applications.
LIG D&A plans to complete the remaining research and development process without a hitch to help the military field the capability in a timely manner. Based on the proprietary technology accumulated this time, it also plans to proactively push the development of an export model.
An LIG D&A official said, "We will do our best to become a key player in raising the localization rate when large submarine construction projects are pursued and when submarines are exported overseas."
