Lotte Global Logistics has formally jumped into developing a "wearable robot," an exoskeleton-type device that supports the bodies of logistics workers.
Lotte Global Logistics said on the 30th that on the 29th it signed a business agreement with robot specialist FRT Robotics to jointly develop and commercialize an artificial intelligence (AI)-based wearable robot.
Lotte Global Logistics and FRT Robotics were selected in March for a project under the government's "AI application product rapid commercialization support program" (AX Sprint), in the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Resources track.
The agreement is a follow-up step. The two sides agreed to pool efforts to develop a physical AI-powered strength-augmenting wearable robot and optimize it for the logistics industry.
Lotte Global Logistics and FRT Robotics will jointly develop and test robot technology to reduce workers' musculoskeletal strain and improve work efficiency.
Lotte Global Logistics plans to deploy robots made by FRT Robotics at real logistics sites to collect data, then refine AI control algorithms based on that data to secure control technology.
In addition, they will establish an industry-academia-research collaboration system that brings together corporations, universities, and government agencies participating in the project, while building a foundation for commercialization.
Yuk Chang-yong, head of technology at Lotte Global Logistics, said, "We will actively cooperate so that physical AI-based wearable robot technology can become a new innovation model for the logistics industry."
