Hyundai Mobis is accelerating efforts to penetrate global markets by leveraging future mobility technology.
On the 29th, according to Hyundai Mobis, the company won orders worth $9.17 billion (about 13.3 trillion won) in core parts from global automakers last year. That is about 23% above Hyundai Mobis' target order value of $7.45 billion.
Hyundai Mobis is also speeding up orders this year for battery system assemblies (BSA) and next-generation electronic components. To that end, in Mar., it began operating a module plant in Kecskemét, Hungary, an auto and battery production hub in Eastern Europe. Through this plant, Hyundai Mobis will supply chassis modules for Mercedes-Benz's electrified models in Europe following North America.
At the Hungary plant, Hyundai Mobis built facilities capable of mixed production with internal combustion vehicles, along with chassis modules for electric and hybrid models. A Hyundai Mobis official said, "We expect this to expand long-term partnerships with clients as well as mass-production capacity and supply chain flexibility in Europe at the same time."
The new BSA plant built in the Navarra region of Spain is also coming online. The new Spain plant, which supplies BSAs for Volkswagen electric vehicles, is Hyundai Mobis' second dedicated plant in Europe for global automakers and will serve as a strategic base to broaden the region's mid- to long-term order pipeline. At the Slovakia plant, mass production has begun of the power electric (PE) system, which integrates the drive motor, reducer, and inverter into a module.
To support this global sales push, Hyundai Mobis is focusing its capabilities on leading technology research and development. In May, building on its existing high-performance 250 kW-class PE system, it succeeded in independently developing a 160 kW-class general-purpose PE system model.
It is also accelerating investment in future growth engines such as artificial intelligence (AI) Robotics and software-defined vehicles (SDV). As part of its strategy to expand the AI Robotics ecosystem, Hyundai Mobis established a collaboration framework with Boston Dynamics to supply actuators for the next-generation Humanoid Robot "Atlas." Actuators account for about 60% of a robot's cost.
It also signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with global semiconductor company Qualcomm to cooperate across a wide range of areas, including SDV and advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS).
