CJ ENM(035760) teams up with Amazon Prime Video India to expand its push into the Indian content market.
CJ ENM said on the 28th that it signed a strategic partnership with Amazon Prime Video India in Mumbai, India, to supply K-content.
Under the agreement, CJ ENM will release about 100 titles, including 26 new ones over the next two years, through Amazon Prime Video India. It plans to present major franchise intellectual property (IP) alongside existing hit titles.
It will also strengthen content localization. New titles will offer dubbing in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu along with English subtitles to improve accessibility for viewers across India.
CJ ENM previously formed a global strategic partnership with Amazon Prime Video to expand its overseas distribution network. After entering India's ad-supported over-the-top (OTT) market through Amazon MX Player, it has broadened its business scope to the local subscription OTT market with this collaboration.
India, with a population of about 1.4 billion and a rapidly growing OTT market, is a market drawing attention from media corporations.
The two companies' collaboration will go full scale starting with Yumi's Cells Season 3. The series has been hugely popular in 81 countries, including the United States, Brazil, France, and the United Arab Emirates.
Silanji Mukerji, head of SVOD at Prime Video India, said, "Following last year, we are pleased to expand into the Indian market in partnership with CJ ENM," and added, "Through this partnership, we will present premium K-content to more Indian viewers and broadly showcase Korea's compelling stories."
Seo Jang-ho, head of the platform business unit at CJ ENM, said, "It is meaningful to partner with Prime Video in India, the fastest-growing entertainment market in the world," and noted, "Through this partnership, we will present CJ ENM's content to many Indian viewers."
