CJ Logistics(000120) will work with Korea Environment Corporation (K-eco) to build an artificial intelligence (AI)-based proper packaging verification system. The plan is to establish a verification system through public-private cooperation to support compliance with excessive packaging regulations and to lay the groundwork for proper packaging to take root stably on the industrial front lines.
CJ Logistics said on the 27th that it signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Korea Environment Corporation (K-eco) for "AI-based smart proper packaging system establishment and operation" at its headquarters in Jongno-gu, Seoul, on the 24th. Attending were Moon Gap-saeng, resource circulation director at Korea Environment Corporation (K-eco), and Kim Jeong-hee, head of the TES Logistics Technology Research Institute at CJ Logistics, among others from both sides.
The agreement centers on building a public-private cooperation system that can reduce excessive packaging from the product packaging stage. CJ Logistics will advance its in-house AI-based proper packaging judgment solution "Pack Check," while Korea Environment Corporation (K-eco) will provide technical support including reviewing the suitability of Pack Check analysis results, quantifying regulatory standards, introducing a smart proper packaging certification system, and conducting on-site inspections.
Pack Check analyzes data such as product information, specifications, and packaging material types to quickly determine compliance with the packaging space ratio under excessive packaging regulations, and proposes improvements if the standards are not met. It is currently in operation at 26 CJ Logistics logistics centers nationwide.
A CJ Logistics official said, "The goal is to support corporations in complying with excessive packaging regulations more easily and accurately, while laying the groundwork for proper packaging to take root naturally in industrial sites."
CJ Logistics and the environment corporation also plan to form and operate an "AI proper packaging verification steering committee" with participation from industry, academia, experts, and civic and private groups. Through technical verification, discussions on system improvement, and gathering on-the-ground feedback, the committee will enhance the objectivity and reliability of the AI-based proper packaging system and reflect the views of various stakeholders in the system.
A CJ Logistics official said, "Currently, whether packaging is excessive is verified largely by hand by accredited verification agencies, which takes significant time and expense," adding, "If the AI-based verification system is introduced stably on site, it will not only drive digital transformation but also improve the consistency and accuracy of regulatory application." Waste from excessive packaging is also expected to decrease, spreading an eco-friendly packaging culture.
