Hyundai Motor Group will accelerate its physical artificial intelligence (AI) strategy by expanding cooperation with the global innovation ecosystem based in San Francisco. Centered on Silicon Valley, where world-class technology corporations, startups, research institutes, and universities are concentrated, the group plans to strengthen research and development, open innovation, talent acquisition, and scientific and cultural cooperation to secure competitiveness in future mobility.
According to the industry on the 26th, Chung Eui-sun, chairman of Hyundai Motor Group, unveiled the "Physical AI" vision at the San Francisco AI Summit held on the 24th (local time).
Chung said the group plans to combine AI technologies from global big tech such as Nvidia, Waymo, and Google DeepMind with its strengths in manufacturing, mobility, and Robotics to implement city-scale integrated intelligence.
Hyundai Motor Group also presented plans to build a robot reference platform and invest in the Saemangeum AI Valley. The group established a global open innovation hub in Silicon Valley in 2011, then reorganized it in 2017 into Hyundai CRADLE, continuing to identify, invest in, and collaborate with startups in AI, Autonomous Driving, Robotics, Smart City, and eco-friendly energy.
It recently established a research and development organization under the Advanced Vehicle Platform (AVP) division in Silicon Valley. The organization is led by Executive Vice President Jeremy Ma, an Autonomous Driving and Robotics expert recruited recently from big tech.
It will also strengthen talent acquisition. It plans to participate in the MG Tech Talent Forum to be held in Silicon Valley in September. The group intends to present its technology vision and research and development achievements to talents in AI, software, Robotics, and future mobility, and provide opportunities to interact with key group leaders and researchers. It will also run HMG Global Tech Talent Hiring, the group's first integrated recruitment program.
It will expand cooperation in science and culture as well. Hyundai Motor Group signed a strategic partnership in April with the Exploratorium, a hands-on science museum in San Francisco. It will establish a hands-on science museum at the Seoul Global Business Complex (GBC) in 2032.
