Hyundai Motor Group said on the 23rd it will strengthen its social contribution activities in Brazil. As a corporation with a production base in São Paulo state, Hyundai Motor Group has continued a variety of local contribution projects to fulfill corporate social responsibility (CSR) in Brazil.

Hyundai Motor Group Chair Chung Eui-sun also conveyed a commitment to promote "social contribution activities for local communities" along with an $1.1 billion investment by 2032 during a meeting in 2024 with Brazil President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

Hyundai Motor Group's flagship social contribution project on the ground is Ionqi Forest. It is an activity to plant trees to restore native species of the Atlantic Forest and to help sustain the forest ecosystem.

Since 2022 through the first half of this year, Hyundai Motor has planted 100,000 trees across Minas Gerais state and São Paulo state in Brazil. Through this, it restored a total of 40 ha (hectares) of forest, and it is also carrying out forest management by providing an agroforestry system to residents of the restored areas.

The mobile dental care project "Sorriso Cidadão (Dental Trailer)" is also cited as a representative local CSR activity. The project has been promoted by Hyundai Motor's Brazil subsidiary since 2014, with medical staff, including dental specialists, visiting local communities in a trailer equipped with treatment equipment.

On site, the medical team conducts oral examinations, tartar removal and minor surgeries, and patients who are difficult to treat are referred to separate clinics. The project initially targeted children and adolescents, but the scope of beneficiaries has since expanded to police officers, firefighters, public safety workers and local institution officials.

The treatment area was also expanded from Piracicaba, where the production plant is located, to nearby satellite cities, bringing the cumulative number of treatments to about 83,000 as of May this year. Hyundai Motor plans to continue reviewing expansion of beneficiaries by increasing support this year to four social welfare institutions, more than 15 schools, and police and fire stations.

Hyundai Glovis and Hyundai AutoEver are carrying out local social contribution activities through cultural exchanges. Hyundai Glovis will continue the Korean Film Festival program it has conducted since 2023 this year. It will also continue supporting the Piracicaba Symphony Orchestra and holding concerts, as well as organizing judo clubs for children and adolescents.

Hyundai AutoEver will significantly strengthen this year the Instituto Formar Lectures, an information technology education program involving technical staff from the local subsidiary. The trainees are teenagers receiving vocational education on the recommendation of Piracicaba social welfare institutions.

A Hyundai Motor Group official said, "With the goal of growing together with the Brazilian local community, we will continue to steadily promote the social contribution activities needed on the ground," adding, "We will identify activities that help civil society in Brazil and contribute to improving environmental issues."
