HD Hyundai XiteSolution said on the 23rd it has developed a low-temperature curing paint that can cut carbon emissions from painting processes for construction equipment such as excavators by about 53%.

HD Hyundai XiteSolution said this is comparable to the effect of newly planting about 104,000 pine trees annually.

The paint developed by HD Hyundai XiteSolution reduces the thermal energy required in the drying process compared with conventional painting methods.

Previously, the temperature had to be maintained at a high 80–100℃ to harden the paint applied to parts, but using the newly developed low-temperature curing paint allows curing at 50–60℃, reducing the thermal energy needed for drying.

HD Hyundai XiteSolution said it achieved this by switching the resin component of the paint from acrylic polyurethane (Acrylic Polyurethane) to the faster-reacting polyaspartic (Polyaspartic) series.

According to HD Hyundai XiteSolution, the new paint also emits about 69% less volatile organic compounds (VOCs) during drying than conventional products.

HD Hyundai XiteSolution is currently testing the newly developed paint on production lines and plans to introduce it at domestic business sites including Incheon and Gunsan, North Jeolla.
