LIG Defense&Aerospace(079550) (LIGD&A) said on the 22nd that it was selected as the research and development institution for a defense research and development (R&D) project overseen by the Institute of Information & communications Technology Planning & Evaluation (IITP) and has begun developing an "intelligent decision-making support system."
About 6.2 billion won in research and development funding will be invested in this project. It aims to develop an artificial intelligence (AI)-based decision-making support system that automates and intelligentizes commanders' operational planning based on analysis of the battlefield situation.
The plan is to build a "defense AI big-data cloud" that aggregates fragmented battlefield information into a single cloud and integrates it in real time, and to combine intelligent fact analysis for situation diagnosis, prediction of situation development, and directive AI-based automatic course-of-action generation technology that assists operational command, thereby accelerating the military's decision-making speed.
LIGD&A aims to establish a battlefield data processing system and complete an intelligent command system that shortens operational planning time by 2029. LIGD&A plans to carry out the project through an industry-academia-research consortium.
