HD Hyundai Heavy Industries will halt production at all plants for a day on the 21st. The move follows a serious industrial accident in which a field worker at the Ulsan shipyard died.
HD Hyundai Heavy Industries said on the 20th that it will "halt production at all plants on the 21st to conduct special safety training to eradicate serious accidents." The board of directors decided to suspend production that day.
On the 18th, a worker in his 20s employed by a partner company died in a crushing accident at the Ulsan shipyard. A person identified as A, a Uzbek national, was riding a gondola and performing grinding work to finish the outer hull surface when the person was trapped between the gondola and the upper scaffold.
The Ulsan Eastern Branch of the Busan Regional Employment and Labor Office issued a partial work-suspension order on the 19th to HD Hyundai Heavy Industries to stop all gondola operations on certain vessels following the accident.
HD Hyundai Heavy Industries said, "Production of the remaining work, excluding the partial gondola-related work-suspension order by the Ulsan Eastern Branch, is scheduled to resume on the 22nd."
