LS Electric will jointly develop core direct current (DC) power technologies optimized for artificial intelligence (AI) data centers and future power grids with Infineon Technologies AG, a global Power Semiconductor corporations.
LS Electric said on the 13th that on the 10th it signed a "memorandum of understanding (MOU) for cooperation on developing DC power technologies for AI data centers" at the LS Electric research and development (R&D) campus in Anyang, Gyeonggi.
The agreement was pursued to respond to surging power demand as AI data centers spread and renewable energy expands, and to secure core technology competitiveness for building a next-generation DC power ecosystem.
Through this partnership, the two companies will jointly develop next-generation DC power solutions based on Power Semiconductor, including power conversion systems (PCS) for energy storage systems (ESS), solid-state transformers (SST), and solid-state circuit breakers (SSCB).
DC power solutions based on Power Semiconductor reduce power conversion stages to minimize energy loss and improve system efficiency, drawing attention as a key power technology in ultra-high-density power environments such as AI data centers. The companies plan to collaborate on technology development that increases power and voltage conversion efficiency in next-generation DC power systems while also strengthening stability and reliability.
LS Electric will take the lead in commercialization by handling system design, integration, and deployment based on its accumulated expertise in power systems and industrial automation. Infineon Technologies AG will support the development of high-efficiency, high-performance DC power infrastructure systems based on its world-class Power Semiconductor and power control technologies.
Ahn Gil-young, head of manufacturing and R&D at LS Electric, said, "With the spread of AI data centers and next-generation power grids, the importance of high-efficiency DC power technology is greater than ever," and added, "Through cooperation with Infineon Technologies AG, which has world-class Power Semiconductor technologies, we will strengthen the competitiveness of core solutions for next-generation DC power infrastructure and grow into a total solutions provider leading global AI data centers and future power markets."
Andreas Waisl, senior vice president at Infineon Technologies AG, said, "High-efficiency DC architecture is a core technology that responds to surging energy demand while improving system performance and sustainability," and explained, "By combining Infineon Technologies AG's Power Semiconductor capabilities with LS Electric's system integration expertise, we will further accelerate the development and commercialization of next-generation DC power infrastructure."
