With a strong wind advisory issued for Jeju on the 12th, flights were disrupted and various damages were reported.
According to Jeju Airport, as of 9 a.m. that day, 81 domestic flights (37 departures and 44 arrivals) were canceled, and two international flights returned. This followed the issuance of a wind shear (gust) warning and a strong wind warning.
Safety concerns are growing due to the strong winds. That morning in downtown Jeju, sunshades and large canopies were blown by the wind, prompting safety measures.
The previous day, strong winds knocked down a pedestrian signal and felled street trees in downtown Jeju, leading to a total of 21 safety actions on facilities over two days.
The Korea Meteorological Administration said winds in Jeju were expected to be very strong, with instantaneous speeds above 20 meters per second (above 25 meters per second in mountainous areas). A strong wind advisory is in effect for the mountainous areas of Jeju, the western, northern and mid-mountain areas of Jeju City, the western, southern and mid-mountain areas of Seogwipo City, and Chuja Island.
Passenger ship operations are also not running smoothly. A high seas warning was issued for the far seas south of Jeju, the coastal waters off Jeju, and the western far seas of the southern coast due to strong winds and high waves.
