Seoul National University Holdings (Seoul National University Holdings) is a university technology holdings company and an accelerator established to commercialize Seoul National University technology and build a startup ecosystem. It supports technologies and ideas born in laboratories to lead to startups and grow into corporations with competitiveness in the market. Based on the philosophy that universities should play a role in nurturing entrepreneurial talent beyond education and research, it has worked to build a university-centered startup ecosystem.
Founded in 2008, Seoul National University Holdings has grown into a leading university technology holdings company in Korea by focusing on discovering and investing in early-stage startups. Since launching its first fund in 2017, it has managed a total of 14 funds to date. Assets under management (AUM) have surpassed 120 billion won. It is among the largest among domestic university technology holdings companies, and the number of corporations it has invested in so far reaches around 200.
Seoul National University Holdings does not stop at providing capital. Even after initial investments, it analyzes corporations' growth stages and potential to carry out follow-on investments and supports commercialization and market entry. It focuses on providing resources and opportunities to help early-stage startups overcome the so-called "death valley."
Its domestic network is also a strength. In addition to Seoul National University laboratories and the Siheung and Pyeongchang campuses, it has formed a startup ecosystem with major universities such as Kangwon National University, KAIST, POSTECH, and Soongsil University. Through this, it has established a full-cycle support system that spans from research and development to commercialization and investment. It is helping discover regional innovative startups and put them on a growth trajectory that overcomes geographic limitations.
It is also pushing to expand its global network. It is building cooperative ties with investment institutions and universities in various countries, including the United States, Japan, Singapore, and Vietnam. It supports innovative startups so they do not remain domestic but can also grow overseas, from establishing localization strategies to network consolidation. Based on this, startups can pursue entry into overseas markets and attract global investment.
The investment performance of Seoul National University Holdings is also becoming visible. Among the early portfolio corporations, those that are about to surpass or have already achieved a 100 billion won valuation are selected and managed as the "STH 100 Billion Club."
These corporations are representative cases in which Seoul National University Holdings participated as an early investor. Leading innovation in each industry, they are expanding their businesses beyond Korea into global markets. Examples include Rebellions, a domestic artificial intelligence (AI) semiconductor corporation, and Travel Wallet, a global foreign exchange payment Fintech corporation.
An official at Seoul National University Holdings said, "The figure of 100 billion won means more than corporate value; it signifies recognition in the market for innovation and sustainability," adding, "We plan to continue investing in and supporting technology-based startups so they can create new industries."
