Kia decided to recall about 460,000 Tellurides sold in the North American market due to a potential fire risk.
According to the AP, on July 10 (local time) Kia America announced a new recall for 462,869 model-year 2020–2024 Tellurides built between Jan. 9, 2019, and May 29, 2024.
Kia previously carried out a recall on the same model last year, but it moved to recall again after about 18 reports were filed of passenger-side fires and power seat motor damage.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said the front-seat power seat adjustment knob could be misaligned or damaged if struck or pressed, which could cause the seat motor to keep running and potentially overheat. It also advised owners of recalled vehicles to park outdoors away from buildings until repairs are completed.
Recall repairs will begin early next month, and notices for the recall are scheduled to be mailed to vehicle owners starting on the 13th of next month.
The Telluride is a large sport utility vehicle (SUV) developed by Kia for the North American market and is produced at a plant in Georgia, United States. Last year's North American sales totaled 123,281 units, and it is one of Kia's key strategic models reflecting local consumer preferences and road conditions.
