At the Ulsan establishment of HD Hyundai M&S, a subsidiary of HD Hyundai Heavy Industries, a serious industrial accident occurred on the 9th in which a worker in his 60s fell and died.
On the 10th, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries said in a disclosure on a serious industrial accident at a subsidiary that "at the HD Hyundai M&S establishment in Ulju-gun, Ulsan, a fall occurred during maintenance on a ceiling crane in the plate shop, leaving one person dead." HD Hyundai Heavy Industries said there were no injuries.
The accident is known to have occurred while replacing a motor on the upper section of a ceiling crane inside a ship block manufacturing plant. The deceased worker was reportedly employed by a subcontractor.
After the accident, the Ulsan branch of the Busan Regional Employment and Labor Office issued a partial work-suspension order, including all repair and inspection work on cranes across the establishment.
HD Hyundai M&S is a specialist manufacturer of curved blocks established last year. HD Hyundai Heavy Industries said it will "conduct companywide special safety training and establish measures to prevent a recurrence."
