Renault Korea said on the 8th that it signed a business agreement with Kakao Mobility to innovate the next-generation car experience. The goal is to develop software-defined vehicles (SDVs) based on Renault Korea's car platform and Kakao Mobility's software capabilities.
With this agreement, the two companies will continue to collaborate on areas such as developing and verifying high-precision maps and software technologies to implement advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), advancing next-generation in-car infotainment systems and connectivity services, and discovering customer experiences suited to the future mobility environment.
Before signing the agreement, Renault Korea also showcased a concept car that implements Kakao Mobility's technologies and services—such as the Kakao T taxi driver application (app) and a second-row passenger-only entertainment system—on its sport-utility vehicle (SUV) Grand Koleos at the Nextrace event held at COEX in Gangnam, Seoul.
Nicolas Paris, CEO of Renault Korea, said, "This agreement will be a starting point for cooperation to create new customer experiences and innovative services befitting the SDV era," adding, "We will continue to introduce services that embody a human-first philosophy by bringing together Renault Korea's car development know-how and the capabilities of our partners."
Renault Korea is continuing cooperation with domestic ICT corporations and startups under an open innovation strategy to build a future mobility ecosystem and develop innovative services. Representative services developed under this strategy include the AI-generated music-based "R:Rush," provided on the mid-to-large coupe-style SUV Filante, and the augmented reality game "R:Racing," which uses the car's front camera.
