Taihan Cable & Solution said on the 8th that it won a turnkey project from Transgrid, the Australian transmission authority, to build a power grid for an artificial intelligence (AI) data center. The contract is worth about 45 billion won.
The project aims to reliably supply large-scale electricity to an AI data center under construction in Australia. Taihan Cable & Solution will build a 330-kilovolt (kV) cable system on a turnkey basis.
AI data centers are large-scale facilities that run around the clock without interruption, making it essential to build a power grid that can reliably support high electricity consumption. As a result, not only quality reliability of extra-high-voltage cables but also a high level of technical expertise and project execution capabilities are required across the project, including system design, engineering, construction, and on-site management.
Taihan Cable & Solution said it was selected as the qualified contractor for this project after competing with leading global corporations, based on its accumulated technology in the extra-high-voltage cable field and its global project experience. Taihan Cable & Solution has carried out numerous projects in Oceania, including Australia and New Zealand. In particular, it completed a 500 kV project, the highest-voltage commercialized underground cable in Australia, and the "Powering Sydney's Future" 330 kV cable system project to expand Sydney's power grid.
A Taihan Cable & Solution official said, "We will use this contract as a springboard to further step up our push into high value-added power infrastructure markets, including global AI data centers."
