Samsung Heavy Industries said on the 8th it won an order for two crude oil carriers worth 284.9 billion won.
According to the Financial Supervisory Service's electronic disclosure system on the day, Samsung Heavy Industries won an order for two crude oil carriers worth 284.9 billion won from a shipping company in Bermuda. The vessels are scheduled for delivery by May 2029.
Samsung Heavy Industries' cumulative orders this year are $10 billion, including 32 merchant ships and two floating liquefied natural gas production facilities (FLNG). That is 72% of the annual order target of $13.9 billion.
In this regard, Samsung Heavy Industries said it surpassed $10 billion in annual orders for the first time in five years since 2021, when merchant ship orders increased on the back of a global economic recovery.
A Samsung Heavy Industries official said, "The driving force that enabled us to achieve $10 billion in annual orders for the first time in five years was the solid order rally in the merchant ship institutional sector and the support of large offshore project orders, including two FLNG units," adding, "We will strengthen our two-track growth foundation spanning merchant ships and offshore to improve our ability to respond to market volatility and sustain stable growth."
