Dongkuk Steel's galvanizing and color steel sheet specialist Dongkuk CM said it has raised the technology level of color steel sheets that use waste plastic.
Dongkuk CM said on the 2nd that it expanded the waste plastic content applied to its eco-friendly color steel sheet brand "Re-born Green PCM·Pre-coated Metal" from the previous 10% to around 25%.
Re-born Green color steel sheet is a color steel sheet that uses recycled waste plastic material, developed by Dongkuk CM in 2023. Dongkuk CM said the product can achieve the effect of recycling 100 500 mL PET bottles per ton.
According to Dongkuk CM, the manufacturing technology upgrade increased the recycled material content of the product by about 2.5 times. Dongkuk CM explained that this means the number of recycled PET bottles rose from 100 to 250. The research and development process took about three years.
Dongkuk CM also said that new designs for the color steel sheet—"Matt" and "Stone"—have been realized. The product reproduces the texture of natural stone on steel sheet.
Dongkuk CM said it aims to expand the application of Re-born Green color steel sheets to building materials, home appliances, and industrial goods.
Choi Woo-chan, head of the technology research center at Dongkuk CM, said, "It is a product that secures both the eco-friendly value of recycling waste plastic and the inherent quality and design competitiveness of color steel sheets," adding, "We will contribute to carbon neutrality and a circular economy through continuous development of eco-friendly material technologies and lead the global eco-friendly color steel sheet market."
Dongkuk CM said it will accelerate efforts to build a system to sell 1 million tons of color steel sheets in 2030 by expanding development of eco-friendly, high-value-added color steel sheets based on "DK Color Vision 2030."
