Chinese carmaker BYD said it will unveil the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) Sealion 6 DM-i (dual mode intelligent) in Korea for the first time on the 26th and begin preorders.
The Sealion 6 DM-i is a hybrid based on an electric vehicle. The electric motor is at the center of driving, with the internal combustion engine assisting. BYD said the vehicle combines the electric vehicle driving experience with the practicality of a hybrid (HEV).
A BYD Korea official said, "BYD's battery technology and dual mode intelligent technology are combined," and noted, "It offers better fuel efficiency and driving performance than existing PHEVs."
The Sealion 6 DM-i comes with an electric hybrid system (EHS), a Xiaoyun 1.5L gasoline turbo engine, and a lithium iron phosphate (LFP)-based Blade Battery. The engine delivers a maximum output of 96 kW and peak torque of 220 Nm, while the electric motor produces a maximum output of 150 kW (204 PS) and peak torque of 300 Nm.
With an 18.3 kWh battery, it can drive up to 70 km in pure electric mode (per full charge, combined standard). It also supports DC fast charging at about 18 kW, enabling a 30%–80% charge in about 30 minutes. It includes V2L, which supplies vehicle power to external devices.
Interior features were also strengthened. Standard equipment includes a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 15.6-inch display, over-the-air updates (OTA), Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 360-degree surround view, and an advanced driver-assistance system (ADAS).
Since introducing the world's first mass-produced PHEV in 2008, BYD has sold more than 8 million units and accumulated over 3 billion km of driving, building its hybrid technology. The Sealion 6 DM-i is also one of BYD's flagship SUVs, with more than 1.1 million units sold in global markets.
The Sealion 6 DM-i is priced at 37.5 million won.
