Korea's robot specialty corporations ROBOTIS will expand cooperation with LG Electronics in actuators, a core robot component. LG Electronics is considering an equity investment in the actuator plant that ROBOTIS is building in Uzbekistan, and the two will also jointly develop Humanoid Robot technology.
On the 23rd, ROBOTIS said it signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with LG Electronics the previous day on an equity investment in the Uzbekistan production plant. The main point is that LG Electronics will consider an equity investment in the robot actuator plant that ROBOTIS is building in Uzbekistan. The specific investment size will be finalized after due diligence. As of the end of the first quarter this year, LG Electronics holds 6.56% equity in ROBOTIS.
An actuator is a drive device that serves as a robot's joint. It is considered a core component that determines a robot's movement and precision control performance. LG Electronics, based on more than 60 years of accumulated motor technology, is producing robot actuators in-house in Korea and plans to pursue collaboration leveraging ROBOTIS' actuator technology and production capabilities.
The two companies believe the partnership will strengthen their robot actuator supply capabilities. LG Electronics will stably supply actuators in various specifications tailored to customer needs, and ROBOTIS expects to accelerate the expansion of its actuator business.
ROBOTIS and LG Electronics also agreed to cooperate on technology development and research in the Humanoid Robot field. The collaboration scope includes "AI Sapiens," an AI-based humanoid platform that ROBOTIS recently unveiled.
