Choi Young-geun, the eldest grandson of the founding family of SK Group, has reportedly returned to work after five years.
According to the business community on the 18th, Choi has been serving since September last year as head of the heritage team at SK Co., the holding company of SK Group. His job is to plan and manage cultural and artistic activities that use the group's assets, including Sunhyewon, the late Chairman Chey Jong-gun's private residence and personal research institute.
Choi, a grandson of Chairman Chey Jong-gun, is the only son of the late SK Chemicals Chairman Chey Shin-won, who died in 2000. Choi served in the Marine Corps and, after being discharged, worked as a manager at SK D&D before leaving the company after receiving a sentence in 2019 of one year in prison, suspended for two years, on charges of habitual drug use.
A business community official said, "Choi graduated from Parsons School of Design in the United States and has experience interning at Vera Wang, a well-known fashion brand," and noted, "SK Group appears to have assigned his position in light of that major and work experience."
