LG Energy Solution drew a license deal from Chinese battery maker Sunwoda, putting an end to a patent infringement dispute.
Tulip Innovation, the patent management corporations representing LG Energy Solution's patent licenses, said on the 11th that it "signed a patent license agreement with Sunwoda." Tulip Innovation said it will withdraw all legal actions underway in Germany, China, and Korea. Under a confidentiality agreement, specific terms of the license deal were not disclosed.
LG Energy Solution waged patent lawsuits for more than two years, saying Sunwoda had infringed multiple patents. Last year, it won a series of rulings in German courts that Sunwoda infringed LG Energy Solution's patents. But when Sunwoda did not agree to license talks, LG Energy Solution also filed patent infringement suits against automaking corporations whose vehicles use Sunwoda's batteries, putting pressure on Sunwoda.
Under the deal, LG Energy Solution is also expected to withdraw all legal actions and requests for trade commission investigations filed against targets including the Volvo Cars EX30 and Renault Grands Koleos.
As of the end of March this year, LG Energy Solution holds 56,453 registered battery patents and 97,752 patent applications.
