Lee Kyu-ho, the fourth-generation member of the Kolon Group Oner family and vice chairman of Kolon Co., joined the board of Kolon Space Works, Kolon Group's affiliate in the space, aviation, and defense sectors.
According to the business community on the 9th, the vice chairman put his name on the Kolon Space Works board as an "other non-executive director" on Mar. 3.
Kolon Space Works is a company launched in Jul. 2024 by consolidating composite materials businesses that had been spread across Kolon Deck Composite, Kolon Glotech, and Kolon ENP. The company develops advanced composite material design technologies and optimal processes for the aviation sector, including aircraft wing structures, fuselage reinforcements, and interior structures, as well as the defense industry. It is also expanding its scope by supplying key components for space launch vehicles and composite materials for satellite structures.
Accordingly, some in the business community say Kolon may be expanding its business portfolio to space development projects and the space economy.
However, a Kolon Group official said, "Other non-executive directors are part-time, so they take part when the board meets and try to understand the agenda."
