Hyundai Glovis said on the 4th that it signed an agreement with the Port of Amsterdam to build a "European finished vehicle supply chain hub."
With this agreement, Hyundai Glovis will set up a dedicated terminal for pure car and truck carriers (PCTC) at the Port of Amsterdam.
The company plans to use this to provide services ranging from vehicle storage and pre-delivery inspection to inland transportation.
The total port site secured by Hyundai Glovis through this agreement is 480,000㎡. Up to three PCTCs can berth at the site at the same time.
The storage yard can hold more than 20,000 vehicles, and it will also be equipped with a rail spur for efficient rail transport and pre-delivery inspection facilities.
The terminal will be operated by Hyundai Glovis Europe (GEU) and open in January next year.
This is the first time Hyundai Glovis has secured an exclusive finished vehicle logistics port base on its own in Europe.
The company plans to unload vehicles imported into Europe, store them at the port, and deliver them inland to each country's dealers according to client delivery requests.
Vehicles exported from Europe will also be transported inland from each automaker's plant to the Port of Amsterdam, stored, and then exported by sea.
Through this, the company aims to shorten vehicle dwell time in the port and enable efficient inland transportation tailored to each client's delivery requests.
It also expects to increase the share of rail for inland transportation and shorten port calls for ships, thereby reducing carbon emissions generated during transport.
At the recent signing ceremony held in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, attendees included Lee Gyu-bok, CEO of Hyundai Glovis, and Koen Overtoom, CEO of the Port of Amsterdam, among others.
Lee Sang-jin, head of Hyundai Glovis Europe (executive director), said, "We plan to develop it into a European finished vehicle supply chain hub that encompasses vehicle storage, quality inspections, delivery, and inland shipping in Amsterdam," adding, "Through this, we will provide clients with more stable and efficient integrated logistics services."
