Hyundai Motor and Kia said on the 4th that their U.S. sales last month totaled 174,860 vehicles, up 2.7% from a year earlier.
Hyundai Motor's U.S. sales last month, including Genesis, reached 94,358 vehicles, a 3.4% increase from a year earlier. During the same period, Kia sold 80,502 vehicles, up 1.9%.
Hyundai Motor said increased hybrid and electric vehicle sales led to overall sales growth.
Hyundai Motor sold 6,479 electric vehicles in the U.S. market last month, up 6.1% from a year earlier.
In particular, Ioniq 9 and Ioniq 5 logged sales of 1,145 and 5,002 last month, up 279% and 28.3%, respectively, from a year earlier.
Hyundai Motor's U.S. hybrid vehicle sales during the same period rose 23.8% to 17,215 units.
By model, Tucson recorded sales of 20,581, up 3.4% from the same month a year earlier, while Elantra sold 16,819, up 6.8% during the same period. Palisade sold 13,089 units, up 16.8% in the same period.
Genesis sales included in Hyundai Motor's tally came to 6,890 last month, a 2.5% increase from a year earlier.
GV70 sold 3,197 units, with sales up 2.1% from the same month a year earlier, while G70 sold 943 units, up 22% in the same period. G90 sold 151 units, with sales up 26.9% in the same period.
Kia's strong U.S. sales last month also largely reflected increased hybrid and electric vehicle sales.
Kia's U.S. electric vehicle sales last month totaled 2,822, up 89.5% from a year earlier.
In particular, EV9 sales last month reached 1,647, a surge of 4,351% from a year earlier.
During the same period, hybrid vehicle sales reached 26,177, up 138.6%.
SUV models also remained strong, led by the new Telluride. By model last month, Sportage sold 18,405 units, up 7.9% from a year earlier.
Telluride recorded sales of 13,655 during the same period, up 18.2%, while K4 sold 12,592 units, down 9.2% from a year earlier.
On the back of this strong performance, Hyundai Motor and Kia set new monthly records for hybrid and eco-friendly vehicle sales in the U.S. market last month, and the share of eco-friendly vehicles in their U.S. sales was 30.1%.
Hyundai Motor and Kia's U.S. hybrid vehicle sales last month were 43,392, and eco-friendly vehicle sales were 52,693, respectively.
