Samsung Heavy Industries said on the 2nd that it won an order worth 4.3301 trillion won for one floating liquefied natural gas production facility (FLNG) from a client in North America.
Delivery is set for Jul. 2030, and construction will begin after the client issues the notice to proceed.
Samsung Heavy Industries has secured 7 of the 11 newbuild FLNGs to date, including Prelude by Royal Dutch Shell, the world's largest FLNG, commanding a 64% share of the global market.
A Samsung Heavy Industries official said, "With this order, we have once again proven Samsung Heavy Industries' FLNG competitiveness, and based on our proven technology and execution experience, we will continue to win orders in the global FLNG market."
Samsung Heavy Industries' cumulative orders this year total 28 ships worth $8.3 billion, reaching 60% of the annual order target of $13.9 billion.
In the merchant ship sector, orders totaled $5.0 billion—13 LNG carriers (including 1 LNG-FSRU), 2 very large ethane carriers (VLEC), 4 very large gas carriers (VLGC), 2 container ships, and 6 crude oil carriers—achieving 88% of the $5.7 billion target, while the offshore sector recorded $3.3 billion including 1 FLNG, achieving 40% of the $8.2 billion target.
