SK Group on the 1st said it appointed former Ministry of Trade, Industry and Resources Vice Minister Jeong Seung-il as president in charge of future growth at SK Co., the group's holding company, and as head of the Energy TF (task force) at SK hynix.
After being named an adviser to SK hynix early this year, the former president Jeong was tapped as president of SK Co. and SK hynix in about half a year.
Born in 1965, the former president Jeong is a career energy bureaucrat who served as director general for energy and resources and Vice Minister at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, president of Korea Gas Corporation (KOGAS), and president of Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO). Accordingly, SK Group is seen as having recruited the former president Jeong to strengthen its power and energy strategy in line with an era in which demand for industrial power is surging, not only for semiconductors, with the spread of artificial intelligence (AI).
An SK Group official said, "The former president Jeong is a figure with rich experience and expertise in power and energy strategy," adding, "He will play a key role in strengthening the competitiveness of future growth businesses, including power and energy and the construction of semiconductor plants, which the group is pursuing."
